Richard Mille - RM016

CALIBER RM 005-S: Skeletonized automatic winding movement with hours, minutes, seconds, date and adjustable rotor geometry.

Dimensions: Length 49.80 mm x 38.00 mm (wide) x 8.25 mm (thickest area)

MAIN FEATURES
(MANY OF WHICH ARE MAJOR TECHNICAL INNOVATIONS)

ROTOR WITH VARIABLE GEOMETRY
Arm in grade 2 titanium
Flange in grade 2 titanium
5-positional adjustment via grade 5 titanium screws
Ribs in 18-carat, high palladium content white gold
Weight segment in tungsten/cobalt alloy
Ceramic ball bearings
Unidirectional; anti-clockwise winding direction
This exclusive RICHARD MILLE design allows the rewinding of the mainspring to be adapted most effectively to the user’s activity level whether it be sporting or non-sporting environments. By adjusting the setting of the rib’s placement, the rotor’s inertia is modified to either speed up the winding process in the case of leisurely arm movements, or slow it down when sporting activities are pursued. As a result, this invention allows the movement’s winding mechanism to be optimized and personalized to the owner’s lifestyle.

POWER RESERVE: 55 hours

WATCHCASE
The watchcase represents the first entrance of new shape with its own particular identity into the Richard Mille Watches collection. It is a counterpoint to the existing collection’s themes of motor sport and sailing, reflected in its discreet lines that are the thinnest in the collection, yet with the same wrist fitting curvature and taper as the rest of the ensemble it represents a further transformation of the tonneau shape suitable for all occasions.

It still retains the same characteristics and attention to detail of case design with a vast number of stamping and machining operations required for the three main components (bezel, middle section and case back). More than 18 days of machine adjustment are required and more than 400 hours of technical research and drawing before production even can start. Each case involves 202 separate machining operations. The design and execution of this watchcase typifies the complete conceptual approach to all parts of the movement, case and dial. As a result, everything has been constructed according to an extremely rigorous specification. For example, a casing ring is no longer used and the movement is mounted on chassis mounting rubbers (ISO SW) fixed by 4 titanium screws. Features such as these are evidence of uncompromising workmanship.

The tripartite case is water resistant to 30 meters, ensured by three Nitril O-ring seals. The case is assembled with 8 spline screws in grade 5 titanium and abrasion resistant washers in copper-nickel-zinc alloy.

BOTTOM PLATE, BRIDGES AND BALANCE COCK MADE OF TITANIUM
The manufacture of these components in grade 2 titanium with black PVD coating allows the whole assembly to be given great rigidity, as well as precise surface flatness which is essential for the per-fect functioning of the gear train.

DOUBLE BARREL SYSTEM
The double barrel system helps to improve the stability of torque over a longer period. This is achieved by using more turns, thereby reducing pressure and friction on the teeth, the bearings and the pivots, resulting in improved long-term performance. DATE DISPLAY Semi-instantaneous, placed in a vertical aperture in the numeral 7. The calendar disc of sapphire crystal is treated with non-reflective coating on both sides.

SPLINE SCREWS IN GRADE 5 TITANIUM FOR THE BRIDGES AND CASE
This permits better control of the torque applied to the screws during assembly. These screws are therefore unaffected by physical manipulation during assembly or disassembly and age well.

INTERIOR FLANGE (upper and lower)
In carbon fiber, with index points filled with approved luminous material.

CROWN
In grade titanium, with double seal O-ring and detailing in either 18-carat red or white gold.

DIAL In sapphire (thickness: 0.40 mm) with anti-glare treatment (2 sides), protected by 8 silicon braces in-serted in the upper and lower grooves.

CRYSTAL
Bezel side: In sapphire (1800 Vickers) with anti-glare treatment (2 sides).
Thickness: 1.20 mm
Case back: In sapphire with anti-glare treatment (2 sides)
Thickness: at the center 1 mm and outer edges 1.73 mm

The steam-age power-reserve indicator along the bottom underlines the linear configuration of the movement. The flying tourbillon animates the endless locomotion through time in precise jumps of six degrees of arc. Its diamond endstone (Harry Winston oblige) proclaims a D-flawless finish throughout: the rails for the sliding weights are so smooth that oil would create friction.

This mechanical installation can be viewed from unusual angles — through lateral windows in the upper and lower caseband.

Also unconventional is the manual winding and time-setting system — direct drive through the back of the watch to the barrel arbor and under-dial work respectively.

Following this year’s sixth Opus watch and a Westminster-chime repeater, the “locomotive” sets Harry Winston’s new watchmaking on an artistic railroad of colour, that combines motion and form.

The most apparent difference is the winding system: on one side, two sliding blocks of platinum with toothed racks that directly engage the winding ratchet; on the other side, stylized wings that crank up the ratchet via pinions.

Harry Winston - Glissiere

“Whether it’s with diamonds or mechanisms, Harry Winston’s purpose is to create a work of art,” explains Mr Chatti. “That means we always do it differently, because there is no art without originality.”

Harry Winston redefines the luxury wristwatch as a mechanical artwork in its third superwatch of 2006/2007.

A rectangular case frames a tableau of precision mechanics, recalling the wheels, sliding pistons and rails of a steam locomotive.

This kinetic sculpture is another astonishing timepiece, after Opus 6, conceived by the team of Hamdi Chatti since he took over as managing director of Harry Winston Rare Timepieces in Geneva in October 2005.

deLaCour -The Bichrono Hommage

Paul Picot - Technograph

The Technograph was developed on the basis of the automatic ETA caliber 7750. A clever system of two superimposed dials makes for a perfectly clear display of the hours and minutes in the center of the reading zone, to the exclusion of all other indications, while the small seconds hand, the chronometer minute counter, the calendar and 300 division minute-circle are located in a peripheral zone on the lower dial.

Paul Picot - Technograph

Paul Picot - Technograph

The principle is as follows: the top dial in the centre of the watch (hours and minutes) is fitted on the bottom dial. The small seconds hand is displayed on a dial added at 9 o’clock, in a half-moon shape. The 30 minutes chronometer counter at 3 o’clock works on the same principle, the only difference being that the 15 first minutes are shown in the outer area starting at noon, and the next 15 in the inner area.

Paul Picot - Technograph

The oversized date aperture is located on the bottom dial at 6 o’clock. A flange with 300 divisions, applied to the outside diameter of the basic dial, enables the chronograph seconds and fifths of a second to be indicated by the centre seconds-hand. The dial assembly is made up of 5 separate components.

Paul Picot - Technograph

The case, in stainless steel, 18kt rose or white gold, measures 44mm. It has a domed sapphire crystal with AR coating and a sapphire display back secured with screws, guaranteeing water resistance to 100 meters.

Paul Picot - Technograph

The dial can be had in rhodium, anthracite or brown.
